When Does Consistency Kill Quality?

If you’re paying attention, you’ll notice today is Sunday—and this is a Saturday newsletter.
Yesterday, I just wasn’t feeling it. I wasn’t inspired. And I don’t schedule my newsletters or posts ahead of time, because when you do, they lose their spark. Yesterday, the spark wasn’t there, so I didn’t force it.
There’s a lot of advice out there about “showing up no matter what” and “posting something over nothing.” I think that’s nonsense. That’s just routine for routine’s sake. And routine doesn’t create excellence.
As an ex-pro golfer, I know that hitting 1,000 practice shots with bad form is worse than staying home and watching Netflix. Consistency without quality? It’s just self-sabotage.
I left the corporate world because I refused to play by someone else’s rules, and the truth is: consistency is only valuable if it serves quality. When you have the freedom to choose when you create, you also have the power to choose what you create. And that’s where the real value is.
Focussing on the consistency instead of the quality is the biggest enemy of creativity. Take a step back, don’t force it, flow like water.
As promised, Vanquish in under 1 minute…on a Sunday!
